Speaking to staff, pupils and parents at Killocrim National School in Co. Kerry on Friday, Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada said that the European project has had advantages and disadvantages for Ireland, and that there is a shared responsibility to ensure Europe focuses on people rather than corporations. Ní Riada was visiting the school as part of the Blue Star programme, which seeks to teach kids about the European Union. She was accompanied by local Kerry County Councillor Dianne Nolan.

Liadh Ní Riada MEP has strongly criticised the call of Fine Gael MEP Sean Kelly to have a potential international court for TTIPs Investor-State Dispute Settlement mechanism (ISDS) located in Ireland.
She said that Kelly has completely betrayed his responsibility to defend the interests of the Irish people.

Speaking in the European Parliament in Strasbourg today Sinn Fein MEP Liadh Ní Riada called on the Parliament to condemn the ongoing human rights violations taking place in Azerbaijan as the country gears up to host the inaugural European Games in Baku. It was announced yesterday that Amnesty International had been banned from entering the country to monitor human rights compliance before and during the games.

Sinn Féin MEP Liadh Ní Riada has sent solidarity greetings to the one parent families protesting in Dublin this afternoon over savage cuts to Lone Parent Allowance, and called on Labour Leader Joan Burton to reverse the cuts immediately. These cuts are due to begin on July 2nd and will impact upon almost 12,000 families.
